Dr. Michael Miller, Professor Emeritus Biology, University of Cincinnati, has done an analysis of the 2024 data collected by RU GMR Water Quality Monitoring.
Beginning with the annual data analysis in 2024, RU decided to do a precipitation and data comparison at 4 of our sampling sites where people regularly use the water for recreation: 1) Great Miami River at Heritage Park, 2) Whitewater River at Green Acres Kayak, 3) Dry Fork of the Whitewater River in Miami Whitewater Forest, and 4) Ohio River at Lawrenceburg. Please keep in mind that these data are a "snapshot" of the water quality at that point in time. One goal is to educate recreational users about the effects of rain events on water quality, particularly E.coli. We also want to SHOW residents how our waterways are impacted by pulse flows and nutrient runoff and how they can make changes at their own residences to reduce these impacts.
Rivers Unlimited plans to erect learning stations at each of these sites to bring this information to the waters edge where we will update data monthly while also demonstrating the relationship of precipitation to those sites through our historical data.
